Roy Lee Goins, Sr.

ROY LEE GOINS, SR., son of the late Jack Goins and Beulah Stansbury Goins, was born on January 12, 1949, in Littleton, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and he graduated from the former McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina, with the class of 1967. He served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He later became employed as a Land Surveyor during his early working career and enjoyed helping people establish true property boundaries for mapping and resolving property disputes.

On July 5, 1969, Roy was united in marriage to the former Rose Baker. He was a kind loving husband, father, Pa-pa, and friend. These attributes were clearly exemplified in his everyday strength of character and vibrant personality. Even when he met someone for the first time, he never met a stranger.

Some of his greatest joys in life were playing the guitar, fishing, spending time with family and friends, and gardening. He enjoyed planting vegetables, especially greens, to share with anyone who stopped by to visit.

The special bond he had with his lifetime barber, Chuck “Z” Brown, and his other circle of loyal friends, meant the world to him. Just sharing simple conversations about everyday life and remembering experiences from the past brought him much laughter and happiness.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Goins; and his niece, Rita Goins.

Those remaining to forever share the treasured memory of his life and love are his devoted wife of forty-seven years, Rose Goins of the home; his sons, Christopher Alston of New  Jersey, Raleigh Williams of Littleton, NC, Roy Lee Goins, Jr. (Sharan) of Hollister, NC, and Ricky Lee Goins of High Point, NC; his loving daughter, Angela Garrett (Linwood) of Skippers, VA; his precious grandchildren, Mya LaShea Garrett of Skippers, VA, Rose Leanne Goins and Nickolas Lee Goins of High Point, NC, Raleigh Williams, Jr. of Littleton, NC, and Dedri Watson of Maryland; one sister, Eula Whitehead (Terrence) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one aunt, Lillian G. Ellis (O’Shell) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one uncle, Henry Goins (Bernice) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his mother-in-law, Josephine Baker of Roanoke Rapids, NC;  three brothers-in-law, McArthur Baker (Wynett) of Orlando, FL, James Baker of Littleton, NC, and Kevin Mallory (Angela) of Halifax, NC; two sisters-in-law, Sherry Baker of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Princess Powers McDonald of Suffolk, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, February 4, 2017, in the chapel of the funeral home. Kevin T. Mallory will deliver the funeral discourse, and burial will follow in the Stansbury Family Cemetery, Weavers Chapel Road, Littleton, NC.
