Rosa Lee Blackwell Williams, daughter of the late John Blackwell and Donnie Bowser Blackwell, was born on July 29, 1929, in Halifax County, North Carolina. She was called home to eternal rest with the Lord on Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina.
Her formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System. She spent most of her life in Trenton, New Jersey, a brief period in Oxon Hill, Maryland, and the remainder of her days in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
On November 10, 1951, Rosa Lee was united in Holy Matrimony to Precious “Press” Walter Williams of Trenton, New Jersey, who preceded her in death after fifty-two years of love and marriage.
Rosa Lee lived a long and blessed life. Her door was always open to those in need of a place to rest their heads. She was a foster mother to many and offered meals to the hungry.
She spent numerous years as a beautician in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and Trenton, New Jersey, and retired in 1991, from Applegarth Nursing Home in Monroe, New Jersey.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rosa Lee was preceded in death by her sisters, Louise Taylor, Mary Elizabeth Conyers, and Ernestine Felder; and her niece, Karen DeVone Jones Grant.
Those left to forever cherish the precious memory of her love and to celebrate her life are her children, Regina Barnes (Darrell) of Temple Hills, MD, Delois Woodard of Waldorf, MD, Shaniqua and Joanna Williams of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Simone Johnson of Bristol, PA; eight grandchildren, Kelley “KEKE” Williams, Torrance Barnes, Van Carl Pace, Nayziah Lee, Jazier Joseph Williams, Quaniya Joann and Shaniya Faith Ingram, and Jeniya Nicole Banks; three sisters, Della Lee Long of Philadelphia, PA, Bertha Banks (Richard) and Edith Jones of Oxon Hill, MD; one brother-in-law, James Felder of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at the London Missionary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, NC. Rev. Clinton Boyd will eulogize, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
