Roland V. L. Williams

Roland Vernon Lenwood Williams was born on February 4, 1949, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to Geraldine Alston-Davis. He entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Vidant Hospice Care in Greenville, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family.

During his early years, Roland accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and became a member of the South Street Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. Later in life, He and his wife, Daisy, joined the Love of God Church of Christ in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, under the leadership of the late Bishop Moses Williams, and he remained faithful and dedicated until his death.

Roland’s formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and he graduated from the former McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina, with the class of 1967. He then served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1969. After returning home to Littleton, Roland enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

On December 31, 1988, Roland was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Daisy Robinson. They were a perfect match! They enjoyed the same things; working in the yard, spending time with their family and friends, going to church together, and traveling from place to place with their church family. One of Roland’s greatest joys was watching football, and he was a Die Hard Redskins fan!

Roland loved providing assistance to family and friends, transporting those in need to doctor’s appointments, or anything else he could do to help anyone. His door was always open and he and Daisy were always willing and ready to come to the rescue when needed.

Roland was preceded in death by his loving and caring maternal grandparents, David Howard Williams and Mary Francis Price Williams; his paternal grandparents, Moses Alston and Mattie Hockaday Alston; his uncles, David Alphonso Williams and Donald Williams; his aunt, Gloria Jones; his mother-in-law, Rosa Robinson; his sister-in-law, Ida Mae Johnson; and his brother-in-law, Maryland E. Robinson.

Left with treasured memories of his life and love are his devoted wife, Daisy Helen Williams of the home; two daughters, Daisy Robinson (Frank) of Maryland, and Gabrielle Rambo of Georgia; two sons, William Henry Jackson and James Dennis Jackson (Hylima) all of Littleton, NC; his mother, Geraldine Davis of Baltimore, MD; six sisters, Ferinda Richardson, Vanessa Williams, Veronica Lunn, Rosa Davis, Michelle Bradford, and Yolanda Johnson (Francell) all of Baltimore, MD; four aunts, Rosetta McAllister of Baltimore, MD, Valeski Smith of Manassa, VA, and Mary Carter and Evelyn Jones of Littleton, NC; four brothers-in-law, Henry Robinson (Merdis) and Seafield Robinson (Brinda) all of Littleton, NC, and John I. Johnson and Curtis S. Alston (Emma) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and cousins, including his three very special cousins, Andray “Shaft D”, James “Pete”, and Ronald Lee.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the Love of God Church of Christ, 2175 Thelma Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC. The Pastor, Elder William Bowser will eulogize, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
