The earthly sojourn of ROBERT BOYD, JR. began on August 1, 1936, in Littleton, North Carolina, and was made complete on Thursday, October 18, 2018, as he transitioned from time into eternity in the serenity of his home in Norfolk, Virginia. He was the son of the late Robert Boyd, Sr. and Sallie Harris Boyd.
During his early years, Robert professed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized at the Mount Gilliam Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina.
Robert’s formal education was received in the public schools of Halifax County, North Carolina, where he graduated from the former McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina, with the class of 1957. It was there that he met the love of his life, Shirley Scott. They were married on December 12, 1955, and remained in matrimony for fifty-nine years. This blissful union was blessed with three children.
Norfolk, Virginia, became his new home, and he was gainfully employed with the Giant Open-Air Market as a licensed commercial refrigeration specialist for numerous years. Robert, affectionately known as “Pop”, to his Victoria Avenue community and to the children for having an air compressor on his front porch where they would come by for “Pop” to inflate their bicycle tires. People would even drive by service stations just so “Pop” could inflate their car tires, as well.
Yielding to the Providence of God, Robert was preceded in earthly transition by his wife, his parents, his grandson, Jeffery Lashawn Murchison; and two sisters, Nettie Mae Boyd Faison and Evelyn Beulah Boyd Faison.
Those left to cherish the precious memories of his life and love are his daughters, Vanessa Murchison and Christie Boyd of the home; his son, Andre’ Boyd (Angela) of Norfolk, VA; his grandchildren, Tonya Anderson of Jacksonville, NC, Brittney Boyd and Brielle Boyd of Norfolk, VA, and Brenton Boyd of Atlanta, GA; his great-grandchildren, Alonni Murchison, Christian Caldwell, and Jaylen Anderson all of Jacksonville, NC, and Ryan Scott of Norfolk, VA; his siblings, Annie Williams of Temple Hills, MD, Mary Bryant of Fort Washington, MD, Alma Black of Fayetteville, NC, Madeline Boyd of Washington, DC, Gary Boyd of Littleton, NC, Doretha Wilkins (Wayne) of Columbia, MD, and Linda Dowtin of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M on Friday, October 26, 2018, at the Mount Gilliam Baptist Church, 3606 Roper Springs Road, Littleton, NC. Bishop Lloyd T. Alston will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the Boyd Family Cemetery, Roper Lane, Littleton, NC. The body will repose at the funeral home from 2:00 – 8:30 P.M. on Thursday, October 25, 2018, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
