Rev. Dr. Annie Celeste Garner Brown

REV. DR. ANNIE CELESTE GARNER BROWN was born in Halifax County, North Carolina, on September 29, 1931, to the late David Garner and Roberta Ashe Garner. She peacefully departed this earthly life and entered into her eternal life on Friday, October 28, 2016, after a period of illness.

Celeste was educated in the Halifax County Public School System and continued her studies after relocating to Baltimore, Maryland.

Celeste was united in Holy Matrimony to Gaither L. Brown, Sr. God blessed this union with seven children, Anthony and Ivan, who preceded her in death; and Helen, Evelyn, Brian, Gaither, Jr., and Queene.

Celeste was a woman of great faith and studied Christian ministry at Arlington Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Under that ministry, she answered God’s call to missionary work where she traveled to several foreign countries.

Celeste founded the Faith in Action Outreach Ministry in Baltimore, Maryland, and later in life,  founded and pastored the Christian Life Outreach Ministry in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. She was a leader in Christian education at many local churches in North Carolina, and was an inspirational speaker, not only to her family, but also to many people in the community.

Celeste received her Doctorate of Divinity Degree from International Christian University in Chesapeake, Virginia, in 2002, and was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. She enjoyed sharing God’s word with family and friends, and many people sought her counsel and guidance.

Throughout her career, she was a skilled seamstress, and was the proprietor of Celeste’s Boutique in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. People came to shop, but whenever the opportunity presented itself, she shared the word of God, her favorite topic of discussion. She possessed a kind loving spirit, had a good sense of humor, and will be greatly missed and forever remembered as a true woman of God.

In addition to her parents and two children, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gladys Carter, and her sister-in-law, Lutie Garner.

Those left to share the precious memory of her life and legacy are her husband, Gaither L. Brown, Sr.; her children, Helen Tysor ( Henry), Evelyn Sturdivant, Brian Webb (Lois), Gaither, Jr. (Roberta), and Queene Browne; her brothers, David Garner, Jr. and Richard Harold Garner (Doris); her grandchildren, Sheryl, Kimberlee, Henry III, Charmaine, Brian, Jr., Takia, Tiffani, Diante, Michael, Darryl, and Charles, Jr.;  her great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; many other loving relatives; and numerous caring friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 145 Old Farm Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Matthew W. Smith, will officiate, and Rev. Dr. Henry Tysor, Jr. will eulogize. Burial will follow in the Crestview Memorial Cemetery, 489 Smith Church Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
