Rebecca Ann Hockaday Edmonds

As it has pleased the Almighty God to transition a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, and friend from labor to reward, on January 11, 2019, REBECCA ANN HOCKADAY EDMONDS departed from this earthly tabernacle to her eternal tabernacle of rest in the serenity of her home in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. On December 03, 1951, Rebecca entered this earthly realm when she was born to the late Jefferson Hockaday and Elma Hawkins Hockaday.

“Becky Ann”, as many would call her, received her formal education through the Halifax County Public School System. At an early age, she professed faith and love in Jesus Christ and joined the Holy Light Holiness Church under the leadership of Pastor Helen Harvey, Pastor Rosa Banks, and the current leader, Pastor Josephine E. Harris, where she remained until ill health prevailed.

“Becky Ann” married her high school sweetheart, Issac B. Edmonds, Sr. This union was blessed with three children, Marie, Isaac, Jr., and Jessie Lee. During her early years of life, she was employed at West Point Stevens in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, for over twenty years and also worked for many years along with her sister at the Fairfax Motel in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Even though “Becky Ann” didn’t have a “Grade A” education, she could pick up on things very easily and didn’t mind lending a helping hand to anyone in need.  She was humble, had a loving heart, dedicated her life to her family, and shared her love with many others. Her smiling face, God given talents, strength of character, and nurturing ways will be forever missed and long remembered.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one son, Isaac B. Edmonds, Jr.;  one grandchild, Kateira Hockaday; seven sisters and eight brothers.

Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memories of her life and to share the legacy of her love are her daughter, Marie Faulcon (Lamont) and  her son, Jessie Lee Edmonds (Alysha) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; six grandchildren, Jermaine Hockaday, Gwendolyn Harris, Antwaine Moody, Carnesha Coleman, Jessica Conyers, and Jordan Dono; ten great-grandchildren; four sisters, Glenn Dora Hockaday, Edith Daniels, and Bertha Jones all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Louise Fobbs of Virginia Beach, VA; one brother, James Boyd of Roanoke Rapids, NC;  two sisters-in-law, Josephine Harris (Johnnie) and Pearl Hockaday all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one brother-in-law, Calvin Edmonds (Sarah) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one uncle, Ralph Hockaday of Richmond, VA; one godsister, Mary Williams (John) of Garysburg, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, saints and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at the New Jerusalem Holiness Church in Garysburg, NC. Elder Clyde Parker will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the Holy Light Holiness Church Cemetery, Hawkins Chapel Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC.   The body will repose at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M. on Friday, January 18, 2019, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. The body may also be viewed at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
