Ray Burley “Pug” Alston departed this earthly life peacefully on Friday, February 5, 2016, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 7, 1927, in Warren County, North Carolina, and was the youngest of the six children born to the late Eddie Alston and Cassie Carter Alston.
During his early life, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and became a member of the Cornerstone Holiness Church in Littleton, North Carolina. He continued professing his faith and formed a personal relationship with God.
“Pug” received his formal education in the public schools of Halifax County, North Carolina. He became employed as a truck driver with McPherson Beverages in Littleton, North Carolina, and Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and retired after more than forty years of dedicated, loyal service.
In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. As he aged and could no longer enjoy these sports, he began playing bingo and going for a cup of coffee at the Waffle House.
“Pug” was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He cherished lasting relationships and was thankful for his family and friends, even in the last hours of his life.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lillian; his son, Antonio “Tony”; and his five brothers, Floyd, Lee Roy, Eddie Earl, Phillip, and Julius.
Those left to cherish precious memories of his life and love are his children, Marcel (Edith), Valeria (Nathaniel), Andrea, Lori, Kimberly, and April (Christopher); his grandchildren, Melanie (Ronald), Le’Var (Crystal), and Latisha; his great-grandchildren, Jaylen, Jaliyah, and Kalani; his caretakers, Ida Macon and Belinda “Faye” Dawson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a steadfast circle of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at the Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Sallie Twine will officate, and entombment will follow in the Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC. A veiwing will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at the Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, and for one hour prior to the funeral time.
