Patricia Ann “Pat” Payne Powell

PATRICIA ANN “PAT” PAYNE POWELL, daughter of the late John Payne and Laura Green Payne, was born on October 31, 1947, in Beaumont, Texas. She departed this earthly home and crossed over to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Patricia received her formal education in the public schools of Jefferson County and graduated from Hebert High School in Beaumont, Texas, with the class of 1967. She then attended Lamar University also of Beaumont, Texas, and received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Patricia remained in Beaumont until August 5, 1969, when she was united in marriage to the late John Powell, Sr., when they relocated to Trevose, Pennsylvania. God blessed this union with three children. While in Trevose, she became a member of the Saint Matthews Methodist Church and remained faithful until they settled in Vaughan, North Carolina. Patricia and her family joined the Greater Ashley Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess, an Usher, and a member of the Pastor’s Aide Ministry. She was a loyal, dedicated, and devoted member until her death.

Patricia became employed with Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and retired after many years of giving special care and concern to those who were ill and suffering. Even after retirement, she continued to help others whenever she could.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Margret Wiley, who raised her.  We don’t grieve for Patricia “Pat” because we know that she is now safe in the arms of Jesus  and rejoicing with her family, especially her husband, who was the strength of her life.

Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memory of her life and to share the beauty of her love are her children, James (Ashley) of Texas, and John, Jr. and Patrice of Vaughan, NC; her grandchildren, James,Kadija, Jalia, Madison, Quincy, and Zackary; one great-grandchild, Kynzlee; her siblings, Anniebell Teal, Donald Payne (Louise) of Texas, and Shelia Payne of California; her devoted aunt, Martha McKoy; her adopted mother, Sylvia Starks; her brothers-in-law, Sam Powell, Jr. and Danny Barrow; her sisters-in-law, Eva Burnette and Laura Barrow of Philadelphia, Naomi Allen, Eunice Powell, and Laura Powell all of Vaughan; special friends, Al and Alberta Jeffries, Elizabeth Brown, Lewis and Jean Cooper, Azzie Christmas, Douglas “Duck” Brown, Sandra Clements, Joyce Galloway, Thurletta Gavins, Linda Hargrove, Rev. Carl McKelroy, Leroy Daily, Geneva Gaines Houston, and Linda Wilridge; and a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, church members, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at the Greater Ashley Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Vaughan, North Carolina. The Pastor, Rev.
