NICK FREDERICK ALSTON, son of the late James Alston and Laura Williams Alston, was born in Halifax County, North Carolina, on August 7, 1938. He was summoned Home to eternal rest and peace on Friday, March 15, 2019, at Signature Health Care of Roanoke Rapids, in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
During his early childhood, Nick accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, was baptized, and joined the Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. Later in life, he joined his wife as a member of the Odell Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. He served as a church Trustee, enjoyed singing in the choir, and remained a faithful member, Praising the Lord until his death.
Nick was educated in the Halifax County Public School System. He retired from Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and was well-known throughout the hospital. If he knew you were a patient, you were sure to receive a visit from him. Nick always had a smile on his face and a joke to lift your spirits. He loved to spread good cheer and laughter.
In 1968, Nick was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Flordia Williams. God blessed this union with one daughter, Cassandra.
Those remaining to forever reflect upon the treasured memories of his life and love are his devoted wife, Flordia Alston of the home; his daughter, Cassandra A. Jones (Garnsey, Jr.) of Hampton, VA; his grandson, the “Apple of Big Daddy’s Eye”, Michael Garnsey Jones of Hampton, VA; his sisters, Juanita Williams of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Hattie Silver of Hollister, NC, and Celestine Alston of Littleton, NC; three brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the Odell Missionary Baptist Church, Embro-Odell Road, Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Lennis Thorpe, Sr. will eulogize, and Rev. Jeffrey Anderson will preside. Burial will follow in the Alston-Newell Family Cemetery, NC Highway 4, Littleton, NC. The body will repose at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon-8:30 P.M on Friday, March 22, 2019, and may also be viewed at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
