Deacon Nathaniel “June” Taylor

Deacon Nathaniel “June” Taylor was born to the late Catherine Taylor on November 8, 1940, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He answered God’s call to eternal rest on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina.

“June” received his formal education in the Halifax County Public School System, and he graduated from the former McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina, with the class of 1959. He then relocated to New York where he began employment as a security guard and factory worker until gaining employment at the Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.

While in New York, he met and eventually married his life-mate, the former Helen Albright. They enjoyed forty-three years of love and marriage.

After retiring from Downstate, he returned to Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and worked part-time for five years at Walmart. He also joined the Zion Hill Baptist Church where he served as a faithful member on the Deacon Board and Usher Board until his health began to fail.

“June” enjoyed serving the Lord, watching football games, traveling with his wife and family, and cooking, especially banana pudding and sweet potato pie.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marylene T. Settles and Eloise T. Berry; two brothers, James Taylor and Melvin Taylor, Sr.; one daughter, Denice Taylor; and one grandson, Jeremiah Dennis.

Those remaining to cherish the precious memory of his life and love are his loving and devoted wife, Helen of the home; one daughter, Alice Taylor (Kendrick) of New York, NY; one granddaughter, Aqwanda Taylor of the home; one grandson, Jaybron Taylor of New York, NY; three sisters, Mary Alice Taylor of Littleton, NC, Margaret Ann Winston (Jerrod) of Brooklyn, NY, and Ester Taylor of New York, NY; two brothers, Eddie Taylor of New York, NY, and Leroy Taylor of Brooklyn, NY; and a host of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will all miss him dearly and remember him always.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, October 7, 2016, at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 43 Stansbury Road, Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Dr. Vernon Bryant, will deliver the eulogy, and Bishop William Cobb, Sr. will preside. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A wake will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, October 6, 2016, from 7:00 – 8:00 P.M. The body will repose at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
