As the sun rises in the east and slowly sets in the west after a perfect day’s work is done, so was the life of “Mother Mac”. She peacefully departed this earthly life on the evening of Monday, November 3, 2014, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, at the age of ninety-one.
Maxine Daye Pierce was born on February 21, 1923, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Mary Daye Wade. The Daye household was blessed with six children. Maxine was preceded in death by her brothers, Jesse and Elwood Daye, and her sisters, Ella, Rachel, and Odell.
Maxine accepted Christ during her early life and became a faithful, devoted member of the Lebanon Baptist Church in Halifax, North Carolina. Her formal education was obtained through the Halifax County Public School System. She was well-known in her community and always enjoyed helping others with a willing heart. She was a passionate seamstress and shared many of her special talents. She loved gardening and singing old gospel hymns.
Maxine was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Nathaniel Pierce. God blessed this union with nine children, four of which preceded her in death, Ellarean Nesmith, Alice Fleming, Lloyd Pierce, and Kelvin Pierce.
Those left to honor the precious memory of her life and love are her children, Jonathan Pierce (Mary) of Gaston, NC, Doris P. McNair (Nate) of Capital Heights, MD, and Daryle Pierce (Linda), David Earl Pierce, and Elaine P. West all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one sister, Ruth McNair (Samuel) of Capitol Heights, MD; one aunt, Laura Bunn of Enfield, NC; another daughter-in-law, Virginia Lee Pierce of Roanoke Rapids, NC; another son-in-law, Ronald Fleming of Bowie, MD; her special granddaughters, Latoshia D. Alston, her caretaker, of the home, and Keisha Byrd of Lothian, MD; her special grandsons, Daric “Pete” Pierce (Marshell) of Littleton, NC, Kelvin Alston (Okia) and Marcus Alston all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Jason Fleming of Bowie, MD; and a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; cousins, other relatives and friends, including her dedicated nurses, Brenda and Tiera.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Sunday, November 9, 2014, at the Lebanon Baptist Church in Halifax, North Carolina. The Pastor, Rev. Richard A. Powell, will eulogize, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 8, 2014, from 7:00-8:00 P.M. at Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton, North Carolina.
