Mary Ann Williams Gray

MARY ANN WILLIAMS GRAY was born to the late Allison C. Kimble and Gennie Mae Williams on January 10, 1960, in Halifax County, North Carolina. She transitioned from this earthly life and entered her Heavenly home on Monday, February 18, 2019, at Memorial Hospital East, O Fallen, Illinois.

Mary Ann accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior during her early life and became a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, where she served as a member of the choir.

Mary Ann’s formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and she graduated from Northwest Halifax High School in Littleton, North Carolina, with the class of 1978. She then entered Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1983. She was employed as a social worker and Special Intake Coordinator.

Mary Ann met the love of her life, Thomas Lee “Tommy” Gray, and they were united in Holy Matrimony on June 29, 1985. They traveled extensively during his tenure in the United States Air Force.

Mary Ann had a loving, caring, compassionate spirit. She enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes, traveling, staying in contact with family and friends, and occasionally playing at the casino.

Those remaining with treasured and everlasting memories of her life are her loving and devoted husband of more than thirty-three years, Tommy Gray of the home; her sisters, Eartha K. Williams of Brooklyn, NY, Faye Alston of Littleton, NC, and Aretha Hudson of Alaska; her brother, David Fitts of Littleton, NC; two brothers-in-law, Wilson Gray, Jr. (Barbara) of Massachusetts, and Garret Gray (Rojean) of New Jersey; seven nieces, Alisea, Amelia, Erica, Ebony and Crystal Williams all of New York, Karen Gray and Leslie Patterson (Greg); five nephews, Duvet (Nicole), Barry (GiGi), Andre, and Christopher Williams all of New York, and Pvt. Alvin Williams of Fort Bragg, NC; five uncles, Charlie Williams (Doris) of Enfield, NC, Walter Williams (Shelia) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, McCarroll Williams (Celnora) of Littleton, NC, David Kimble (Inez) of New Jersey, and Tony Green of Creedmoor, NC; five aunts, Lenora Johnson and Rebecca Brothers of Brooklyn, NY, Barbara Williams of Petersburg, VA, and Evelyn Green and Marene Green of Creedmoor, NC; her goddaughter, Brianna Covington; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends including her special friends, Willie Mae Blackman, Emma Jean Covington, and Faye Young. She was also very close friends with Regina Alston who preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church , 43 Stansbury Road, Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Dr. Vernon Bryant, will eulogize, and burial will follow in the church cemetery, The body will repose at the funeral home on Friday, March 1, 2019, from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
