On Tuesday evening, December 30, 2014, Major Blake Alston, Jr., was peacefully called to his heavenly home. He was born in Halifax County, North Carolina, on August 8, 1935, and was the second oldest child of the late Major Blake Alston, Sr. and Mary Pitchford Alston. His only brother, James Arthur Alston, preceded him in death.
During his early years of life, he sought spiritual guidance and became a member of the Enon Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System.
Major was employed with the Bibb Company, formerly J.P. Stevens and Company, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and retired after many years of dedicated service. He then gained employment with Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton, North Carolina, and served for numerous years until his health began to fail.
In 1957, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Dorothy Tabron. God blessed this union with three adorable children. One son, Major Blake Alston III, preceded him in death.
Treasured memories of his life and love will be forever remembered by his devoted and loving wife, Dorothy Alston of the home; two caring and supportive children, Troy Alston of Littleton, NC, and Cheryl A. Watson (Marvin) of the home; eleven grandchildren, Sakinah, Nitanju (Jordan), Troy, Jr., Major IV, Derrick, Troya, Kristian, Tiphany, Latisha, Travis, and Randy; six great-grandchildren, Malik, S’Mya, Omauriun, Jordyn, Makeylyn, and Ashanti; two sisters, Dinah Gardner (Jimmie) of Rhode Island, and Patsy Yelity of Portsmouth, VA; one daughter-in-law, Elaine Alston of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two sisters-in-law, Lillie Rice and Mozella Alston of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two other brothers-in-law, Raymond Tabron (Brenza) of High Point, NC, and Bennie Tabron of Roanoke Rapids, NC; several precious nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 3, 2015, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton. Rev. Dr. C.E. McCollum will officiate, and burial will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery #2, Johnson Mill Pond Road, Littleton, NC. The body will repose at the funeral home on Friday, January 2, 2014, from 1:00 – 8:30 P.M.
