Larry B. Burgess

LARRY B. BURGESS, son of the late Frank Burgess, Jr. and Lucy Bowser Burgess, was born on June 23, 1956, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He answered God’s call to eternal rest and peace on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at his home in Littleton, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family.

During his early life, Larry professed faith and belief in Jesus Christ and became a member of the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. He later changed his membership to the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, and he remained faithful until the Heavenly Father called him home.

His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, where he attended Everetts Elementary School in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and Northwest Halifax High School in Littleton, North Carolina. He was employed with Flambeau Plastics in Roanoke Rapids, with thirty-seven years of dedicated service. He then gained employment with M. J. Price Construction of Roanoke Rapids, and remained loyal until ill health prevailed.

Larry was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Elaine Bowser who preceded him in death. He later met and married the former Leonnie Alston Silver.

Larry enjoyed cutting grass, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and attending Sunday school and church services. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered for his kind ways, warm smile, and loving, caring manner.

In addition to his parents and former wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Burgess, Sr.; his nephew, John Burgess; his great-niece, Shakira Lovelace; his sister-in-law, Katherine Bowser; and his brother-in-law, Henry Bowser.

Treasured memories will remain with his wife, Leonnie A. Burgess of the home; his children, Lori Hunter (Brian) of Enfield, NC, Jennifer Burgess (Dalawrence) of Skippers, VA, Crystal Burgess (DeAndre) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and Nathaniel Silver, Jr. (Chiquetta) of Littleton, NC; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Queen Burgess and Barbara Ivey of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Susie Harvey of Dumfries, VA; three brothers, Melvin Burgess (Alcola) of Enfield, NC, Eugene Burgess, Sr. (Quentina) and Thomas Burgess (Phyllis) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one loving uncle, Ralph Burgess of Richmond, VA; seven other sisters-in-law; seven other brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 2, 2017, in the chapel of the funeral home. Rev. Cornelius Young will eulogize, and burial will follow in the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 6154 Bowers Road, Littleton, NC. The body will repose at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, from 9:30 A.M – 1:00 P.M and from 4:00 P.M – 8:30 P.M.
