JUNIUS “POOLIE” HICKS, JR. was born to Junius Hicks, Sr. and Catherine Parker Hicks on April 12, 1953, in Warren County, Littleton, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life on Monday, December 15, 2014, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
Junius attended the Halifax County Public School System and was a 1971 graduate of Northwest High School at William R. Davie School in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country with several tours of duty stateside and overseas. In 1973, he received an honorable discharge and was reinstated with an immediate reenlistment. From December 1973 until February 1978, he continued to serve his country and fought bravely during the Vietnam War. At the end of this tour of duty, he was honorably discharged from the United States Army for the second and final time.
Junius became employed at Champion International Paper Company in Roanoke Rapids, before starting his electrical career with Owens Electric and Heating Company in Littleton. While there, he developed and perfected his electrical and plumbing skills and became quite accomplished in his occupation. He was well-known for his special abilities in his field in the Littleton Community, as well as, homes along the Eastern Seaboard. Many lives were touched and lifestyles improved because of his exceptional knowledge and determined ambition in the electrical and plumbing business.
“Poolie” AKA “Hicks” was quite the entertainer. The brother could S-A-N-G! He was also a great dancer. In short, he loved life and lived it to the fullest.
Those left to forever cherish the fond memories of his life are his children, Sabreena Watson Edwards (Carlos) of Bryans Road, MD, Junius Lamont Hicks (Allisha) and Antonio Hicks all of Littleton, NC; four grandsons, Carlos Edwards, Jr., Jabril Edwards, Amari Edwards, and Jalen Hicks; his parents, Junius Hicks, Sr. and Catherine Hicks of Littleton, NC; his sisters, Sandra Hopkins of Richmond, VA, and Faye Nicholson of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his brothers, Robert Hicks and Dwight Hicks (Sharicka) all of Littleton, NC, and Keith Hicks (Prell) of Honolulu, HI; two aunts, Christine Edwards of Kenly, NC, and Beatrice Lynch of Littleton, NC; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel, 215 US Highway 158, in Littleton, NC. Elder Tyrone Alston will eulogize, and burial will follow in the Robinson Cemetery in Littleton.
