Josephine Thorne, “Mose” or “Jo”, as she was affectionately called, passed away peacefully during the early morning hours of Thursday, September 3, 2015, at University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She was born on March 6, 1932, in Littleton, North Carolina, to the late Earlie J. Thorne and Martha Hawkins Thorne.
During her early life, she professed belief in Jesus Christ, was baptized, and became a dedicated member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. Through the years, she served on the Usher Board and the Hospitality Committee.
Her formal education was received in the public school system of Halifax County, North Carolina, and she attended the former Edgewood School in Littleton.
She established a career in the food service industry for over fifty-nine years, and retired from the Halifax County School System as Manager of the Child Nutrition program at the former McIver Elementary School in Littleton.
“Jo” was a tireless, hard-working, independent woman who loved caring for others. Her greatest joy was cooking good food, sharing it with her family and friends, and embracing the fellowship with laughter and the joy of togetherness.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Kearney and Joseph Kearney.
Her sweet spirit and loving heart will be greatly missed and forever remembered by her loving daughter, Tracey Thorne Eason (Jason); her treasured granddaughter, Jessica Eason; her caring sister, Linda Thorne White; three brothers, Sampson Kearney, William Kearney, and Vernon Thorne; five nieces, Nicola Josette Blue, Dawan James (Ramiek), Lakisha Kearney, Katanya Barnes (Myron), and Monique Price; three nephews, Donald King,Jr., Jamal Thorne, and Amir Thorne; nine great-nieces and nephews; three great-great-nieces and nephews; a loving and supportive family of cousins, other relatives and friends, including the Southgate Community, and her special, loyal friends, Pearlie Daniels, Catherine Baker, and Alice Evans.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 127 Rock House Road, Littleton, NC. Min. Geno Mitchell will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC. The body will repose from 2:00 P.M to 8:30 P.M. on Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton.
