Josephine Lee Alston

JOSEPHINE LEE ALSTON, daughter of the late Samuel Thomas Lee and Cora Macon Lee, was born on February 19, 1927, in Halifax County, North Carolina. She departed this physical life and received her heavenly wings on Sunday, March 15, 2015, at the Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, North Carolina.

Josephine joined the Ivory Hill Baptist Church in Enfield, North Carolina, during her early years and remained a faithful Christian throughout her life. Her formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System.

In 1947, she was united in marriage to Colonel Thomas Alston, Jr. who preceded her in death. God blessed this union with five children.

Josephine spent her working years in the food service industry and production assembly. In her later years, she enjoyed cooking for her loved ones, gardening, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Carvin and Milton; and three brothers, Obadiah, Thelmiah, and Jeremiah Lee.

Those remaining to share everlasting memories of her life and treasure the legacy of her love are her son, Donzill Alston of the home; her two daughters, Evelyn Anderson of Durham, NC, and Angela Golden (Lavell) of Richmond, VA; her daughter-in-law, Zella Alston of Durham, NC; seven grandchildren, Rico, Tremayne, and Brandon Alston, Ambir and Alana Anderson, and Janai and Justin Golden; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Zeno Lee (Shirley) and Noah Lee; five sisters, Ethel Walker, Maome Bullard, Channie Zollicoffer, Corine Hawkins (Lloyd), and Evelean Lawson; three sisters-in-law, Fannie Lee, Rethella Alston, and Lucy DeCoursey; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hollister, NC. Rev. Thomas Richardson will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the funeral home on Friday, March 20, 2015, and the family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 P.M.
