Life began for JOHNNY WARDDELL “JAY BUBBA” WILLIAMS on November 4, 1952, in Norfolk, Virginia, when he was born to the late Hart Williams and Mamie Pulley Williams. God called him home to take eternal rest on Monday, June 9, 2014, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
Johnny’s formal education began in the Warren County Public School System and concluded in the New Jersey Public School System. He served his country in the United States Army from February 28, 1974, until February 23, 1976, during the Vietnam Era and during peacetime. After being honorably discharged, he attended New York City College in New York City. Upon returning to North Carolina, he became employed with J.P. Stevens and Company In Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and remained for over twenty years.
Johnny accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, where he served as a Deacon and as an Usher, and remained a faithful member until his health began to decline. He also worked dutifully with the Democratic Party and was involved in many other community activities.
Thirty-five years ago, Johnny met the love of his life, the former Deborah Taylor. They were united in Holy Matrimony on October 22, 1979, in Warren County, North Carolina. This union was blessed with four children.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Hart Williams, Jr.; his aunt, Johnnie Johnson; his mother-in-law. Nannie Mae Taylor, and his brother-in-law, John Willis “Pete” Taylor.
Those left to forever cherish the precious memory of Johnny’s life are his devoted wife of thirty-five years, Deborah Williams of the home; one son, Jason Williams of Charlotte, NC; three daughters, LaShonda Scott of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Ivory Williams of Warren County, NC, and Crystal Williams of Orlando, FL; seven grandchildren, Erica Taylor, Ashley Scott, Amber Greene, DeAndra Bowser, Joshua Williams, Christopher Williams, and Brittany Ellis; five great-grandchildren; his father-in-law, James Lee Taylor of Littleton, NC; three sisters-in-law, Clarice Taylor and Loretta Taylor of Littleton, NC, and Sheryl Taylor of Atlanta, GA; one brother-in-law, Robert Taylor of Littleton, NC; two aunts, Beulah Hawkins of Petersburg, VA, and Mattie Pulley of Manhattan, NY; four special cousins, Erinn, David and Frankie Johnson, and Donald Pulley; and a host of other relatives and friends who will all miss his earthly presence.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, June 13, 2014, at the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Dr. Vernon Bryant, will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose until 8:30 P.M. on Thursday, June 12, 2014.
