John Willie Cooper

John Willie Cooper, son of the late Louis Cooper and Luevenia Taylor Cooper, was born on June 21, 1944, in Warrenton, North Carolina. He transitioned from this earthly life on Friday, March 23, 2018, at his home in Macon, North Carolina.

For many years, John was employed with Tar Heel Tire Company and the Harris Logging Industry. He had a passion for animals and owned dogs, cats, chickens, goats, rabbits, and squirrels. His special skills in gardening and tilling the soil were evident in that there wasn’t a seed he planted that did not sprout. You name it, he had it, and it would grow.

Although a man of few words, John spoke with stern authority. The warmth and simplicity of his life were reflected in the kind and loving manner that endeared him to those whose lives he touched in so many ways.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jasmine Makalia Cooper; four sisters, Mary Alice Thomas, Luegenia Milam, Nora Cooper, and Kate Siegler; and three brothers, Robert, Walter, and Manson Cooper.

Those remaining to share in the precious memory of his life and love are his wife, Mary Lee Cooper of Macon, NC; six children, Willie (Christine) of Charlotte, NC, Michael (Ogletra) of Warrenton, NC, Leroy Cooper and Edith Ellis of Macon, NC, Joyce Ellis and Jean Hayes (Jimmie, Sr.) of Warrenton, NC; a special daughter, Melissa Hawkins of Roanoke Rapids, NC; twelve grandchildren; two special grandchildren reared in the home; one sister, Pennie Jennings of Virginia; two brothers, Merldon Cooper (Lottie) of Macon, NC, and Louis Cooper (Jean) of Vaughan, NC; three brothers-in-law, Johnnie Ellis (Jeanette), Robert Ellis (Vanessa), and Oshel Ellis (Merlinyn); four sisters-in-law, Annie Alston, and Millie, Mary, and Betty Ellis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends, including his very devoted friends, Millie Ellis, Albert “Boo” Hill, Jr., Charles Alston, and Robbie Wright.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, April 6, 2018, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, 215 US 158, Littleton, NC. Rev. Jimmie Hayes, Sr. will eulogize, and Min. Ogletra Cooper will officiate.
