John Joseph “Johnnie” Silver

John  Joseph “Johnnie” Silver, son of the late Rolvie Silver and Bertha Richardson Silver, was born on October 27, 1946, in Nash County, North Carolina. God saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, so on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at his home in Hollister, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family, God gently closed his eyes and whispered, “Peace be thine”.

“Johnnie” was educated in the Nash County Public School System and relocated to Halifax County in 1962. During his early life, he joined the White Rock Baptist Church in Hollister, North Carolina, and later changed his membership to the Greater Bethesda Baptist Church also in Hollister, North Carolina. He was a dedicated member of the male chorus, served as a Trustee, and was on the Usher Board.

“Johnnie’s” most precious moments were spent fishing, cooking and spending time with his family and church family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, and will be greatly missed by everyone whose life he touched in so many special ways.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Frankie and Salbert Silver.

Those remaining to forever cherish the precious memory of his life and love are his devoted wife of forty-three years, Roberta Silver of the home; four daughters, Janie Pulley (Rondell) of Rocky Mount, NC, and Linda Lynch, Theresa Lynch (Joseph), and Michelle Silver all of Hollister, NC; two sons, John Silver of Hollister, NC, and Joseph Silver of the home; seventeen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Barbara J. Silver and Mary Hedgepeth (Eddie) all of Hollister, and Lou Roberson (Hilton) of Manhattan, NY; four brothers, Robert Silver (Mary) of Louisburg, NC, Willie Silver (Deborah) of Manhattan, NY, and James Silver and David Silver (Horace) all of Hollister, NC; three other sisters-in-law, Patricia Silver, Corine Lynch (Robert), and Wilhelmia Johnson; three other brothers-in-law, Horace Johnson (Wilhelmia), Calvin Johnson, and William Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, July 3, 2015, at the White Rock Baptist Church in Hollister, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Alonzo West, will officiate, and Rev. Stanley Richardson will eulogize. Burial will follow in the former White Rock Baptist Church Cemetery in Hollister, NC. The family will receive friends the funeral home on Thursday, July 2, 2015, from  7:00-8:00 P.M.
