John Daniel “Pump” Taylor, Jr. was born in Warren County, North Carolina, on October 21, 1946, to the late John Daniel Taylor, Sr. and Ethel Pulley Taylor. He entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 24, 2016, at his home in Littleton, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family.
During his early years, John accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined the Odell Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. His formal education was received in the Warren County Public School System. He retired from K.M. Pulley Trucking Company in 2008, after many years of dedicated service.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a son, Dexter Devon; a brother, Walter; and a sister, Mamie.
John is survived by his loving wife, Minnie Ruth of the home; three children, John D. III (Zaila) of Jacksonville, FL, Elfreda Taylor Britt (James) of Rocky Mount, NC, and Tammie Allen (John) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; fourteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Edith) and Nick (Delois); three sisters, Carolyn, Iwana (Carl), and Wynonia; his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Gussie Silver; two brothers-in-law, Larry Silver, Sr. (Martha) and Robert Silver, Jr. (Angela); five other sisters -in-law, Paulette (Ken), Kathy Pair (Joshua), Debra James (Michael), Gloria Boyd (Terry) and Helen Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at the funeral home. Rev. Lennis Thorpe, Sr. Pastor of Odell Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, NC, will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Taylor Family Cemetery, Odell Road, Littleton, NC. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Tuesday, November 29, 2016.
