James Louis “Hickey” Phipps was born to Arrie M. Phipps Townes on October 4, 1948, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He peacefully departed this earthly life at 7:00 A.M. on Monday morning, December 14, 2015, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.
During his early life, he professed faith in Christ and became a member of the Fidelity Baptist Church in the Summit community of Littleton, North Carolina, where he sang in the church choir and also joined the Fidelity Male Chorus.
His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and he attended the former Print Elementary School in the Summit community, Everetts Elementary School in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina.
“Hickey” had a goodhearted sense of humor and was liked by everyone who knew him. He enjoyed singing and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his devoted stepfather, Jesse JamesTownes.
His loved ones now left to forever cherish the memory of his life are his wife, Estelle R. Phipps; his sons, Edward L. Phipps, Randy M. Phipps, Franklin E. Phipps, Kenneth G. Phipps, and Leonard M. Taylor (Fredah); his loving, caring mother, Arrie P. Townes; his brother, Jesse E. Townes; his loyal, dedicated aunt, Mary P. Tabron; fourteen grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at the Fidelity Baptist Church, 627 Summit Road, Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. John Rooks, will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 21, 2015, from 7:00 PM until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
