James Aurther Davis

JAMES AURTHER DAVIS was born to the late Lizzie R. C. Smith and Ernest Field Davis on January 28, 1944, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He slept peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, February 3, 2020, at his home in Littleton, North Carolina.

During his early life, James attended the public schools of Warren County, North Carolina. He became employed as a mechanic at Metro Shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia, and remained for over twenty-five years until declining health prevailed.

James enjoyed telling jokes, watching wrestling, and watching his favorite football team, The Dallas Cowboys.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by three children, James Alexander Davis, Barbara Teresa Davis, and James Marshell Davis; and two brothers, Rudolph Davis and Ernest Lee Davis.

Those left to cherish the precious memories of his life are his loving, loyal, and devoted wife of thirty years, Geneva Davis of the home; his caring daughter, Diane Blanche (Gregory) of Waldorf, MD; his stepdaughters, Joanne Bell (Willie) of Chesapeake, VA, Jeanette Dixon (Aaron) of Virginia Beach, VA, Viola Hughes (dedicated caregiver) of Littleton, NC, and Lucinda Emerson of Norfolk, VA; eleven grandchildren: James Greggs, Jason Emerson, Charlotte Emerson, Kiara Davis, Latoya Emerson, Jada Bell, Jerrod Dixon, Veronica Emerson, Ricky Emerson, Marquita Harris, and Marcus Alston;  eleven great-grandchildren; Ashanti Emerson, Jason Emerson, Jr., Makayla West, Zavier West, Jayvion Emerson, Zaiden West, Jaylen Emerson, Kendrick Emerson,  Zyanna Greggs, Jasmine Morning and Broderick Morning, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Ernestine Davis and Mary Davis of Littleton, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 8, 2020, in the chapel of the funeral home, 215 US Highway 158, Littleton, NC.  Rev. Nathaniel Bunn will eulogize, and burial will follow in the Robinson Cemetery in Littleton, NC. The body will repose from 1:00 – 8:30 P.M. on Friday, February 7, 2020.
