Ivor Bell Edmonds

IVOR BELL EDMONDS, son of the late Simon and Lizzie Edmonds, was born on September 12, 1924, in Littleton North Carolina, and departed this earthly life on Sunday, December 21, 2014, at his home in Baltimore, Maryland.

Bell, as he was called by his family and friends, joined the fellowship of Zion Hill Baptist Church at an early age. He was educated in the Halifax County Public School System, and after graduation, he attended North Carolina A & T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. A proud Veteran of the United States Navy, Bell, a Stewart’s Mate Class V6, served his country during World War II. He was awarded the following United States Naval Academy medals: American Area; Asiatic-Pacific Area & Star; Philippine Liberation & Star; and the Victory World War II. He was honorably discharged in February 1946.

He moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he married Lucinda Vilonda Clark on May 29, 1948. Their union was blessed with three loving children. Lucinda preceded him in death on May 3, 2008.

A hard worker; Bell was employed for many years by the B & O railroad, Gray & McNamara, and Maryland Messenger Service. Upon his retirement, he continued to work at Maryland Messenger Service, but only during the spring and summer months.

He enjoyed gardening and was known for his beautiful roses and tremendous sun flowers. Family and friends were very important to him. He took great pride in the achievements of his children and grandchildren. Bell was sure to gather event programs to share family accomplishments with friends and colleagues.

Baseball was his favorite sport, and he loved to watch the Orioles’ games with Lucinda. For more than ten years, he enjoyed attending his annual Navy reunion which was held throughout the United States. He liked playing cards with the family and Wheel of Fortune on his laptop where he won several million dollars. He became computer savvy at the age of 80.

Bell loved the Lord and was ready for his place in the Kingdom of God. He leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Ivor A. (Tony) and Kenneth, a daughter, Marjorie; two daughters-in-law, Carolyn and Victoria; two grandsons, Ivor E. (Ernie) and James; two granddaughters, Yvonne and Patricia; one brother, Jesse; two sisters, Mary and Alice; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Littleton, NC. Rev. Dr. Erick Ingram, will eulogize, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, December 26, 2014, from 7:00-8:00 P.M.
