Irene Yvonne Jones Alston

CaptureOn Sunday afternoon, October 5, 2014, Irene Yvonne Jones Alston took the hand of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and gently slipped into eternity, with her family and close friends by her side.  She was born on July 1, 1946, in Warren County, North Carolina, and was one of the four children of the late Leonard D. Jones, Sr. and Geneva C. Jones.

Yvonne, as she was affectionately called, was a true and faithful servant to God and her fellowman. She confessed hers sins, dedicated her life to God, and became a member of the Norlina Baptist Church.

Yvonne knew what mattered in life, and family was the top value for her. She wore many hats, but being a devoted wife and mother were the ones she cherished most.  Some of the accomplishments she left to strengthen us include being a graduate of North Warren High School, attending Durham Business School, and retiring from Carolina Power and Light Company in 1997. Prior to her employment with CP&L, she worked for Leggett Department  Stores where she developed many lasting friendships and lifelong relationships. Her compassion and sincerity touched many hearts.

On August 26, 1973, Yvonne committed her heart to her high school sweetheart, Clinton Gerald “T-Bone” Alston. They were happily and devotedly married for more than thirty-five years. God blessed their union with a wonderful daughter, Autumn Celeste Alston. Her daughter and husband were the love of her life.

In addition to her parents, Yvonne was also preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Gerald “T-Bone” Alston.

Those left with loving memories to forever treasure are her beautiful daughter, Autumn Celeste Alston; her eldest sibling, Leonard D. Jones, Jr. of Warrenton, NC; two other brothers, Michael Jones (Vanessa) of Norlina, NC, and Prince Reid (Margaret) of Richmond, VA; one sister, Vivian Honor (John) of Chapel Hill, NC; one brother-in-law, Willie Augustus Alston of Houston, TX; four sisters-in-law, who were more like her sisters, Lucy Davis and Noletha Taylor of Hampton, VA, Celestine Fields (Marcellus) of West Orange, NJ, and Vanessa Jones of Norlina, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Greenwood Baptist Church, 1175 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Warrenton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Eddie Wayne Lawrence, will eulogize, and entombment will follow in the church cemetery.
