Ida Mae was born in Halifax County, North Carolina, on January 19, 1941, from the union of the late John Henry Faulcon, Sr. and Gertrude Sykes Faulcon. She answered God’s call to eternal rest and peace on Friday, August 26, 2016, at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
She was educated in the Halifax County Public School System, attended the former McIver High School, and was a proud member of the Class of 1959. She attended the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, with her family throughout her childhood. She relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, early in her adult life and was blessed with two wonderful daughters, Sharri and Valerie.
Ida Mae received her formal Nursing training at the Helene Fuld School of Nursing, and she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Maryland School of Nursing. She served as a devoted Registered Nurse at several medical facilities in Baltimore, including Liberty Medical Center, Provident Hospital, University of Maryland Center Shock Trauma Unit, and the United States Post Office Medical Unit. She also provided private in-home nursing care as needed through the Medical Personnel Pool.
She met the love of her life, Howard, and enjoyed over twenty years in a relationship that fulfilled her life.
After retiring from the United States Post Office Medical Unit, she returned home to Littleton, North Carolina, and joined the Roanoke Chapel Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, where she served faithfully.
Her lifelong passion was to serve others, and it shined through her call to Nursing. Her family faithfully sought and relied on her medical expertise, and she loved sharing her knowledge and wisdom. One of her favorite pastimes was enjoying her friendships and interactions with her fellow Littleton Senior Citizen members. Most importantly, she loved her grandchildren and was proud to be called Granny!
In addition to her loving parents, Ida was preceded in death by her sister, Hattie Jacobs, and her brothers, Herman Sykes, John Henry, William Tinsley, Hozie Lee, James Westley, and Ed Lewis Faulcon.
Those remaining to forever cherish her precious memory are the love of her life, Howard, of the home; two daughters, Sharri Plaza of Littleton, NC, and Valerie Bonner (Michael) of Garner, NC; three grandchildren: Rayven, Ramon, and Andrew; her brother, Jesse Faulcon of Baltimore, MD; her brother-in-law, Joseph Jacobs of Littleton, NC; her sister-in-law, Janie Faulcon of Littleton, NC; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at the Roanoke Chapel Baptist Church in Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Timothy Edwards, will officiate, and burial will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery #1 in Littleton, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 -7:00 P.M. on Friday, September 2, 2016.
