Gladys Marie Sledge Davis

GLADYS MARIE SLEDGE DAVIS, the oldest of the four children of the late Henry Sledge, Sr. and Mae Bell Nicholson Sledge, was born on June 21, 1941, in Halifax County, North Carolina. She departed this earthly life on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at her home in Littleton, North Carolina.

Gladys received her formal education through the public school system of Halifax County, North Carolina. During her early life, she became a member of the South Street Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, and also attended the Enon Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina.

Gladys married the love of her life, Charles Edward Davis, and they raised two children and one grandson. She was an amazing wife, a devoted mother, a very adoring grandmother, and a genuine friend to many. She was full of life, enjoyed gardening, going to yard sales, and was always there for her family whom she truly loved.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Magdalene “Betty Lue” Sledge Taylor; and she transitioned with her husband, Charles Edward Davis, and her grandson, Antonio Allen “Tony” Mills.

Gladys leaves loving memories to be forever cherished by her two children, Belinda “Brenda” Sledge of Brooklyn, NY, and Elroy Sledge of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one grandson, Troy Sledge (Charlene) and two great-grandchildren, Adonis Troy Sledge and Chase Lee Sledge all of McKinney, TX; one sister, Gloria “Bro” Pitchford of Brooklyn, NY; one brother, Henry “Buddy” Sledge, Jr. (Daphine) of Littleton, NC;  her nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and  numerous other loving family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, in the chapel. Rev. Charles E. Walton will officiate.
