Geraldine “Jerri” Ashe Leach Liscomb, 76, transitioned on October 18, 2014, at the Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina, surrounded in the comfort of her children and grandchildren. Born in Littleton, North Carolina, on June 14, 1938, she was the second child of Robert Lee Ashe and Elsie Mae Peace Ashe, who predeceased her.
Jerri was multi-talented and always academically astute,which was demonstrated by her skipping a grade at Print Elementary School and thus graduating from McIver High School at age sixteen. Although an avid reader, she spent hours dressing the hair of her four sisters, thus, after graduation she pursued a degree and certification in cosmetology. This lead to her positions on the faculty of Halifax Community College, Raleigh Institute of Cosmetology in Raleigh, NC, and often serving at the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetology administering the licensing test.
She was baptized and accepted Christ at the Refuge Church in Littleton, NC, and was an outstanding soloist,which she loved dearly. Later upon returning home after living many years in New York, she worshiped with her mother and served as adult Sunday School teacher and treasurer at the Only Way Church of the Apostolic Faith in Littleton,NC.
In addition to her parents, Geraldine was preceded in death by her daughter, Emily Leach Alston; her son-in-law,James Alston; her husband, Robert Liscomb; her two infant siblings, Christine and James Cleveland; her brother, Robert A. Ashe; her sister, Barbara Ashe Dixon; her sister-in-law, Joyce Evans Ashe; her brothers-in-law, Fred Lee Dixon, Jr., Dr. William M. Johnson,Jr., and John Henry Mclaurin.
Geraldine’s wonderful life and legacy live on in those who survive and love her: her first husband and father of her children, Aaron Otha Lee Leach, II of Brooklyn, NY; her daughter, Joy Leach Huntley (John, III), of Winston Salem, NC; her son, Aaron Otha Lee Leach,III of Littleton, NC(Anita Leach McDougal); her grandchildren, Marquette & Damaris Leach of Manhattan, NY, Sharrod Leach of Denmark, SC, and Aiene Leach and Jerica Leach of Raleigh, NC; her sisters,Vivian Ashe McLaurin of Bowie, MD, Carol Ashe Coleman (Bishop James L. Coleman, Sr.) of Petersburg, VA, and Dr. Celeste Ashe Johnson of Manchester, CT; her sister- in- law, Linda Stark Ashe of Littleton, NC; her aunt, Helen Ashe of Littleton, NC; 20 nieces and nephews; 33 grandnieces and nephews; and a vast number of cousins; two cherished friends, Jennifer Andrews of Richmond, VA, and Marsha Womack of Smithfield, NC.
Viewing and visitation will be held at 11:00 AM, with a reflection ceremony to follow at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton, NC. Burial will follow in the Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
