Eunice Ree Perkins

EUNICE REE PERKINS, daughter of the late Irvin Perkins and Karene Clark Perkins Harris, was born on August 23, 1934, in Halifax County, North Carolina. She transitioned from this earthly life and entered the Heavenly realm on Friday, March 8, 2019, at Rocky Mount Rehabilitation Center in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Eunice received her formal education from the Halifax County Public School System. After relocating to Washington, DC, in the early 1950’s, she furthered her education through employment training programs with the Federal Government and in the field of Customer Service. She was employed by several major retailers for over forty years before retiring and returning to her native North Carolina, in 1995, to care for her mother and her uncle who were both in declining health.

“Ree”, as she was affectionately called, was formerly united in marriage to the late William “Bro” Lyons of Whitakers, North Carolina. Although she never had children of her own, “Ree” assisted her brother, “Jack”, in the rearing of his seven children and was always a devoted, loving aunt.

Eunice always enjoyed spending time with her family and caring for their needs. She spent many days sharing old stories and passing on the family history to others.

In addition to her parents and former husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Arthaniel “Jack” Perkins; and a very special uncle, Joe Henry “Uncle Pete” Clark.

Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memory of her life and to share the legacy of her love are her cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Her business manager and confidant, Edward Pitt; her constant visitor and personal care assistant, Carolyn James, and Sandra Rudd-Knight are all her special cousins who were always there and assisted her to the very end.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at the White Oak Missionary Baptist Church, 1612 White Oak Road, Enfield, North Carolina. The Pastor, Rev. Delano K. Miller, will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
