Eunice Louise Jones Avent

EUNICE LOUISE JONES AVENT was born on September 25, 1955, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to Mary Lucille Garner Jones and the late William Henry Jones II. She transitioned from this earthly life on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at her home in Willingboro, New Jersey.

During her early life, she professed faith in Jesus Christ and joined The House of Prayer in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Her formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and she attended the former John Armstrong Chaloner High School in Roanoke Rapids. She then enrolled in cosmetology school, earned certification as a beautician, and became employed at a beauty shop on Roanoke Avenue.

After relocating to Trenton, New Jersey, she became a member of the Beauty Grove Primitive Baptist Church. She later joined the Princeton Church of Deliverance, where she was active in Bible study classes, received her certification of completion in Family Crisis classes, and opened her home in emergency situations for foster children.

In addition to her father, Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Avent; her brother, William “Willie” Jones III; her maternal grandparents, Leslie and Emma Garner; and her paternal grandparents, William Jones, Sr. and Eunice Jones.

Loved ones left to forever treasure the precious memory of her life and love are her son, Derrick Jones, her foster son, Tian Thompson, and her mother, Mary Lucille Jones all of Willingboro, NJ; three sisters, Connie Hawkins of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Rosa Squire of Brooklyn, NY, and Virginia Whittington (John) of Willingboro, NJ; her brother, Robin Jones of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two sisters-in-law, Renee Jones of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Mary Jones of Trenton, NJ; two uncles, Charles Jones and Marvin Jones of Trenton, NJ; four aunts, Lilly Garner, Dora Garner, and Laura Putney all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Ethel Williams (Noah) of Trenton, NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at the First Baptist Church of Roanoke Rapids, NC. Rev. Danny Jones will officiate, and burial will follow in the Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC. The body will repose at the church from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.
