ELLEN BEATRICE “BOOT” HICKS LYNCH HAYNES departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Signature Healthcare of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. She was born in Littleton, North Carolina on July 25, 1929, the eldest of three children born to the late Essex Junius Hicks and Ida Alston Hicks Patterson.
During her early years she joined the Pleasant Zion Baptist Church and was a faithful member until her health began to fail.
Beatrice, “Boot” as she was affectionately known, was educated in the Halifax County School System and upon completing high school she relocated to the city of Hartford, Connecticut. There she married her first husband, Mr. Paul Lynch, who preceded her in death.
Returning to her hometown of Littleton, North Carolina in 1968, she reconnected with many relatives and friends. She enjoyed her soap operas and the “Family Feud” television show.
On April 12, 1990, she married Henry Haynes, who also preceded her in death. She loved and lived a good long life; really speaking her mind in the last five years. It was rumored that “Mrs. Ellen” was really the one in charge at Signature Healthcare.
In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Leroy “Dooly” Hicks and a nephew, Junius “Poolie” Hicks, Jr.
Treasured memories of her life will remain with her brother, Junius “Red” Hicks (Catherine); nieces, Faye Nicholson and Sandra Hopkins; nephews, Robert Hicks, Dwight Hicks, and Keith; two additional nephews (brother Leroy’s sons); and a host of great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 5, 2018, at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel in Littleton, NC. Rev. Danny Jones will officiate, and burial will follow in the Robinson Cemetery in Littleton, NC.
