Elizabeth Alston “Fatts” Bowers

ELIZABETH ALSTON “FATTS” BOWERS was born on December 25, 1933, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Thomas Alston and Maggie Spivey Alston. She departed this earthly life and transitioned to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

During her early life, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of the South Street Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. Her formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System.

Elizabeth grew up working in the farming industry and later became employed as a custodian for the Halifax County School System.  After being employed in the public sector for many years, she decided to enjoy her time at home as a housewife.

She was united in marriage to Edward Bowers, who preceded her in death. This union was blessed with seven children.

Her favorite pastimes included fishing, cooking, family gatherings, sitting outside, and most of all, she was a fun-loving person who lived her life well.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three children, Lucille Harvey, Virginia Williams, and Melvin Bowers; and her siblings, Stanley, William, Thomas, Alonzo, Charles, and James Alston.

Those remaining to forever share the loving spirit of her life are her children, Martha Taylor (John) and James Bowers all of Littleton, NC, Madeline Bowser (Timothy) of Halifax, NC, and Marie Jefferson of Roanoke Rapids, NC; seven children of the heart whom she reared as her own, Thomas, Mary, Willie Mae, Esther, Napoleon, David, and Larry; a very special son, Johnny Alston; twenty-three grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she  loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 17, 2016, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, 215 US Highway 158, Littleton, NC. Rev. John R. Rooks will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 43 Stansbury Road, Littleton, NC. The body will repose until 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home on Friday, September 16, 2016.
