Edward Levon Jones

EDWARD LEVON JONES was born on April 23, 1950, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Dolphus Jones and Elsie Fleming Jones.

At an early age, he accepted Christ and was baptized at the House of Prayer Bible Way Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and he graduated from the former John Armstrong Chaloner High School with the class of 1970. That same year, Edward began employment at J.P. Stevens and Company in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, where he became a foreman and remained a dedicated, loyal employee for twenty-eight years.

Edward loved being surrounded by family and friends. He was fondly known to everyone around town as, “Big E” or “Stoody”. He loved swimming, dancing, basketball and football. The Washington Redskins and the Los Angeles Lakers were his favorite teams. He never missed a chance to watch the games and never forgot the scores. Telling jokes and making people laugh were also his pastime joys, yet, he became emotional at the trials this life held for others.

Edward departed this earthly life on February 4, 2017, at the Enfield Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Enfield, North Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ervin.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Patricia Brown of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his grandson, Derrick Brown of Roanoke Rapids, NC; six sisters, Annie (Robert) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Cezette of Wyoming, DE, Cynthia, Judy, and Samantha of Hillside, NJ, and Cindy of Roanoke Rapids, NC; six brothers, Phillip (Marie) of Panama City, Panama, Gregory, Keith (Tamerra), and Bernard (Denise) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Ronnie of Orlando, FL, and Joel (Leslie) of Charlotte, NC; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at the Shearins Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapid, NC, with the Pastor, Rev. Maxine B. Cain presiding. Pastor Willie Ward will eulogize, and burial will follow in the Love of God Church of Christ Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.  The body will repose at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, from 9:30 A.M. – 8:30 P.M.
