Edith Maxcine Blackwell Jones

Edith Maxcine Blackwell Jones, daughter of the late John Blackwell and Donnie Bowser Blackwell, was born on May 6, 1939. She peacefully departed this earthly life and answered God’s call to her heavenly home on Thursday, December 6, 2018, in the serenity of her home.

In August of 1951, Edith accepted Christ as her savior and became a member of Quankey Missionary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

She received her formal education in the Halifax County Public School System and was a graduate of the former John Armstrong Chaloner High School in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, with the class of 1959.

On July 26, 1959, Edith was united in Holy matrimony to Bennie Louis Jones, and they shared thirty-four years of love and marriage before he preceded her in death in May 1993. God blessed their union with three loving children, Kathy, Karl, and Karen.

Edith worked in the food service department at three hospitals, Northern Virginia Doctors Hospital, Northern Virginia Training Center, and Inova Alexandria Hospital. After thirty years or more of hard work and dedicated service, she retired in January 2014.

In addition to her parents and husband, Edith was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Jones-Grant; her sisters, Mary Conyers, Louise Taylor, Pauline Felder, Rosa Williams, and Bertha Banks; and her sister of the heart, Alice Dowtin.

Those left with precious memories to forever cherish are her two children, Kathy Harrison (Paul) and Karl Jones; her grandchildren, Jamal, Jazmine, Jerel (Jasmine), Paul Jr., Paula (Marcus), LaToya (Deion), and Angela (Nathaniel); her nine great-grandchildren; her sisters, Delois Woodard and Della Long; two sisters-in law, Clara Garner and Hazel Jones; four brothers-in law, James Felder, Milton Jones (Anne), Kenneth Jones (Maxine), and Charles Jones (Jenny); three special cousins, Delores Thompson, Nellie White, and Costina Putney; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at the Shearins Chapel Baptist Church, 1892 Thelma Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC. Rev. Milton Jones will eulogize, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
