Dorothy Mae Davis Young

Dorothy Mae Davis Young, fondly known as “Cuddy”, was born to the late Henry Davis and Carrie Ivey Davis on February 22, 1937, in Halifax County, North Carolina. She answered God’s call to her eternal home on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Hamilton Grove Nursing Center in Trenton, New Jersey.

Her formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System. She became employed at Hardy Fish Market for many years and later at The Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District where she retired in 2000.

During her early life, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior, was baptized, and became a member of the London Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Russell Young; her son, Michael T. Young; her daughter, Rita D. Young; her brother, Lewis Davis; her sister, Louise Boone; her grandson, Jermaine Young; and two nieces, Cindy Scott and Tracey Barnes.

Those left to forever treasure the memorable reflections of her life are her daughter, Katie Williams (Ricky) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two sons, Minister Terry L. Young (Minister Lily Young) of Garysburg, NC, and Alvin Young of Richmond, VA; one goddaughter, Valerie Bradley of Roanoke Rapids, NC; eleven grandchildren, Towanda Young, Meshia Hill (Neil), Latonya Young, Tra’vis Young, Tanisha Simmons, Danisha Simmons, and Mekila Young all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Sherry Young of New Jersey, Terea Turner (Dorian) of Sycamore, IL, Derrick Williams (Carla) of New England, Taurus Young (Dominque) of Los Angeles, CA, and Daryl Graham of  Raleigh, NC; nineteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lorene Jones (Louis) and Irene Faulcon (Walter) all of Trenton, NJ, and Willie Mae Nelson of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one brother, Raymond Davis of Trenton, NJ; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Davis of Philadelphia, PA, and Sherlene Squire of New York; one brother-in-law, William Boone of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including two very special friends, Linda Freedom and Daisy Squire of Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the London Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, NC. Rev. John Rooks will eulogize, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose until 8:30 P.M. on Friday, April 4, 2014, at the funeral home and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.  The family will receive friends at the home of Katie and Ricky Williams, 224 Creekside Court, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
