DOROTHY MAE PATTERSON TAYLOR, affectionately called “Sister”, was born in Halifax County, North Carolina, on August 26, 1937, to the late John Patterson and Cora Williams Patterson. She answered God’s call and entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 7, 2017, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
She became a member of the South Street Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, and expressed her steadfast belief and unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Her formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and she became employed with the Horace Harris family for numerous years.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Harry Leon Taylor, Sr. who preceded her in death. God blessed this union with seven children. She was a loving wife and a dedicated mother who will be remembered for the positive impact she had on the lives of those she touched in many special ways.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two sons, Harry Leon Taylor, Jr. and Larry Daniel Taylor; her granddaughter, Charlene Brown; three brothers, Henderson, Roger, and Willis Patterson; and three sisters, Carrie, India, and Marie.
Loved ones now left to forever treasure the precious memory of her life and to share her sweet spirit are her five daughters, Belinda Taylor and Gloria Taylor of the home in Littleton, NC, Cora Taylor and Veronica Taylor of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Vicky Clements (Snydor) of Blackridge, VA; nine grandchildern; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Milton Patterson of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three sisters, Viola Ruff of Reston, VA, Susie Alston of Philadelphia, PA, and Bessie Alston of Whitakers, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 14, 2017, in the chapel of the funeral home. Rev. Fred Thorpe will eulogize, and burial will follow in the South Street Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Bacon Road, Littleton, NC. The body will repose at the funeral home until 8:30 P.M. on Thursday, July 13, 2017.
