Dorothy Jean Hunter Sellers

Dorothy Jean Hunter Sellers, daughter of the late Martha Irma Hunter, was born on January 25, 1941 in Littleton, North Carolina, and departed this earthly life on Thursday, February 19, 2015, in Richmond, Virginia.

Her formal education was received in the Warren County Public School System, where she graduated from the former Hawkins High School with the class of 1959.

On November 11, 1960, Dorothy was united in marriage to William Lenier Sellers, who preceded her in death. They later relocated to Richmond, Virginia, where God blessed this union with four children, William, Paula, Charles and Sharon. While in Richmond, Dorothy developed many friendships and loved to entertain. She became employed with Fox Photo, Standard Drug Company, and the Wella Company.

Dorothy and William retired in 1998, returned to Littleton, North Carolina, and became members of the Greater Ashley Chapel Baptist in Vaughan, North Carolina. She served as Church clerk, was active on the kitchen committee, and sang with the senior choir.

After her husband’s death, she attended Halifax Community College and Vance-Granville Community College, where she became certified as a Teacher’s Assistant in the Warren County School System. She was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed crafts, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She loved the times spent with her good friends, Sylvia Starks, Mary Cosom, Iwana Taylor, and her best friend, Milo Jones.

In addition to her husband and mother, those also waiting for her in Heaven are her three sisters, Mary (Teen) Jefferson, Irma Louise Hunter and Mollie Hunter; her two nephews, Joseph White and Gerard Hunter; her niece, Deborah Hunter; and many others.

Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memories of her life and love are her children, William A. Sellers, Paula L.M. Armstrong (Steven), Charles B. Sellers (Patreace), and Sharon “Punchy” Ellis (George); eleven grandchildren, Tarsha Anderson, Charles Sellers Jr., Steven Armstrong, Jr., Terence Covington (Yinella), Sean Armstrong, Keith Sellers, Justin Brown, Kenya Sellers, Faith Ellis, Christian Ellis, and Lavale Butterfield; five great-grandchildren, Cionna and Robert Anderson, Heaven Sellers, and Mya and Christian Covington; four sisters, Pattie Rivers (Leroy), Annie Hunter, Helen Madry, and Minnie Hunter; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Leroy Sellers (Delois), John Sellers, Major Sellers (Addie), Charles Sellers (Jeanette), Clarence Sellers (Jackie), Doris Taylor (Harry), and Deloris Sellers; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at the Greater Ashley Chapel Baptist Church in Vaughan, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Milton Jones, will eulogize, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state until 8:30 P.M. on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at the funeral home, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
