Dorothy Davis Boyd

DOROTHY DAVIS BOYD, daughter of the late Stephen Davis and Maggie Robinson Davis, was born on March 16, 1936, in Littleton, North Carolina. On Tuesday morning, November 8, 2016, her soul departed this earthly realm and entered into a spiritual life of peace and joy in her heavenly home. In addition to her parents, she has now joyfully joined her sisters, Willie Mae Taylor, Minerva Harris and Elizabeth Davis; her brothers, Grady, Hubert, Rodney, Theodore “King”, and Stephen, Jr. “Buddy” Davis; and her husband, Willie Albert Boyd.

Dorothy was educated in the Halifax County Public School System, and during her early life, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Mt. Gilliam Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. She remained a faithful member, serving the Lord diligently by participating on several auxiliaries and committees. She ensured that her children were actively involved in Sunday school and church where they often sang and recited poems.

Dorothy was employed at the former J.P. Stevens and Company of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, prior to transitioning to the healthcare field as a licensed Nurse’s Aide, until she retired after many years of dedicated service.  Her clients often spoke of the special care and concern that she provided.

Dorothy was a cherished woman and a very special mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.  Her greatest accomplishment in life was being a mother and a grandmother. Her steadfast Christian beliefs, sustaining words of wisdom, and strong family devotion will always serve as a beacon of light for future generations.

Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memories of her life and love are her two sons, Leon Davis and Roger Boyd (Velita) of Durham, NC;  five daughters, Carolyn Boyd of Durham, NC, Mary Boyd-Thomas of Raleigh, NC, Alvinia Boyd of Greensboro, NC, Gloria Boyd of Pleasant Garden, NC, and Hettie Davis (Jerome) of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Devin and Christopher Davis of Charlotte, NC, and Cambrielle Thomas,” her sixth daughter”, of Raleigh, NC; five sisters-in-law, Ella Sue Sommerville, Joan Diaz, Rosie Blackmon, Ruthie Blackmon, and her cherished sister-in-law, Bessie Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 13, 2016, at the Mt. Gilliam Baptist Church, 3606 Roper Springs Road, Littleton, NC. Rev. Danny Jones will eulogize, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, November 12, 2016, from 5:00 – 6:00 P.M.
