Life began for Doretha Anita “Cookie” Young on September 27, 1946, in Halifax County, North Carolina, when she was born to William Young and Alice Brown Young. Her earthly life’s journey came to an end on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and built her spiritual foundation at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. She received her formal education and graduated from the Baltimore City School System in Baltimore, Maryland. Her employment began at Kennametal in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, where she remained for eighteen years. She then chose to further her career with Hagemeyer North America until her retirement.
Doretha touched the lives of many people who loved her. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, baking sweets for her grandchildren, and planting flowers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Alice Young; her sister, Loretta Young Partee, and her son, Melvin R. Goodman.
Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memories of her life are her two daughters, Michelle Williams (Linwood) and Mary McRae (Maurice) of Littleton, NC; five grandchildren, Niko, Jourdan, Liniyah, Zekariah, and Amariya all of Littleton, NC; her brother, Louie Young (Helen) of Littleton, NC; one niece, Latisha Young of Littleton, NC; two nephews, LeVar Young (Crystal) of Littleton, NC, and Arthur Partee of Richmond, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends who will always remember her earthly presence.
A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 21, 2014, at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel, 215 US Highway 158, Littleton, NC. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral time. Anyone wishing to give a floral arrangement, a potted plant will be greatly appreciated.
