Donnell L. Artis

img023DONNELL L. ARTIS was born on April 17, 1976, in Brooklyn, New York, and made his transition from this earthly life on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at his home. He was reared by his grandmother, Barbara “Bunk” Artis, and she cared for him with all of her heart until ill health prevailed.

Donnell matriculated through life as an “old-school” music enthusiast, particularly as a huge fan of the Stylistics, the Chi-Lites, and the Ohio Players. “Big Boy”, as everyone knew him, loved fried chicken and Chinese food.  He was quite keen on the numerous historical landmarks of New York City, and was always excited about sharing that information with everyone. As an authentic native New Yorker, Donnell graduated in 1994, from the Brooklyn Public School System.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Valerie; his father, D.D.; his grandmother, Barbara “Bunk”; his grandfather, Bruce; his uncle, Lloyd “Punkin”; his great-grandmother, Clara; and two aunts, Elsie and Shirley.

Those remaining to cherish the memories of a life full of excitement are is siblings, Eboni and Orie of New York, NY; his special great-aunt, Dorothy “Dot” of Rocky Mount, NC, whom he loved as a mother and who cared for him as her own son; other great-aunts, Sandra of Littleton, NC, Margaret (Trevor) of New York, NY, Emma

(Stewart) of Providence, RI, and Rachel of New York, NY; his great-uncles, Lloyd (Phyllis) and Ronald of Brooklyn, NY, and Willis of Newark, NJ; his great-great-aunt, Virginia Hawkins of Littleton, NC; his great-great-uncle, Louis “Brick” Scott of Littleton, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who all loved him and will miss him dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M on Monday, August 1, 2016, at the funeral home. Rev. Robert L. Faulcon, Sr. will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the Pleasant Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 590 Enterprise Road, Littleton, NC.
