Charles Edward Davis

CHARLES EDWARD DAVIS was born on August 15, 1942, in Vaughan, North Carolina, and was the oldest of the sixteen children of the late George Davis and Gracy Harrison Davis. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at his home in Littleton, North Carolina.

Charles received his formal education in the Warren County Public School System. He later relocated to Littleton, North Carolina, where he became employed with the former Pepsi Cola Plant and later with the Town of Littleton, North Carolina, where he retired after thirty-nine years of loyal, dedicated service.

Charles was united in Holy Matrimony to Gladys Marie Sledge. This union was blessed with two children, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was a devoted son, a loving husband, and a supportive father. He enjoyed helping his family, gardening, and assisting others in the community when he was needed.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his siblings, Edith Newkirk, Shirley Adams, and John Davis. Transitioning with him was his wife, Gladys Marie Sledge Davis, and his grandson, Antonio Allen “Tony”  Mills.

Those left with treasured memories of his life are his two children, Belinda “Brenda” Sledge of Brooklyn, New York, and Elroy Sledge of Roanoke Rapids, NC; twelve siblings, George Davis of Henderson, NC, Anthony Davis (Hattie) of Raleigh, NC, Phillip Davis (Carol) of Boston, MA, Keith Davis (Linda) of Weldon, NC, Terry Davis of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Estes Davis (Twanda) of Henrico, NC, Lois Williams (Isaac), Grace Williams (Alexander), Evelyn Davis, and Peggy Davis all of Boston , MA, Jean Cooper (Lewis) of Vaughan, NC, and Robbin Lynch (Clinton) of Littleton, NC; other brothers-in-law, Henry Sledge, Jr. (Daphine) of Littleton, NC, Jerome Adams and Marcellus Newkirk of Boston, MA; his grandson, Troy Sledge (Charlene) and great-grandchildren Adonis and Chase Sledge all of McKinney, TX; one sister-in-law, Gloria “Bro” Pitchford of Brooklyn, NY; one uncle, Lonnie Harrison (Ethyl), and one aunt, Catherine Harrison all of Vaughan, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will all miss him greatly.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, in the chapel. Rev. Charles E. Walton will officiate.
