CHARLES DONNELL “DONNIE”HAWKINS was born to the late Charlie Hawkins, Jr. and Virginia Alston Hawkins on September 20, 1947, in Littleton, North Carolina. He transitioned from this earthly life on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson, North Carolina.
Donnie grew up in the Olive Grove Community of Littleton, North Carolina, and was raised in a close knit family of three brothers and one sister. He became a member of the Olive Grove Baptist Church during his early life.
Donnie’s formal education was received in the Warren County Public School System, and he graduated from the former North Warren High School in Wise, North Carolina.
Donnie was united in marriage to the former Odessa Burnette of Warren County, North Carolina. This union was blessed with one son, Anthony.
Donnie was employed at the former J. P. Stevens and Company in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and remained loyal to his profession until he retired.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Hawkins Moore.
Those remaining to treasure the precious memories of his life and to share the legacy of his love are his son, Anthony T. Hawkins (Jomesha) of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren, Joyous, Canah, and Laila; three brothers, John J. Hawkins (Carolyn) of Wake Forest, NC, Stanley M. Hawkins (Toby) of the home, and Barry Hawkins (Miyako) of Japan; one uncle, Fred Carter of Littleton, NC; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and many close friends including George and his Dixie Mart family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at the Olive Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 915 Eaton Ferry Road, Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Charles E. Walton, will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M. on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.
