Cecil Tommie Jones, Sr.

CECIL “TOMMIE” JONES, Sr., son of the late Eddie Jones and Jannie Harris Jones, was born on October 31, 1938, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He departed this earthly home for eternal rest and peace in his Heavenly home on Monday, March 26, 2018, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

During his early life, “Tommie” accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, was baptized, and became a member of the Twilight Missionary Baptist Church in Weldon, North Carolina, where he remained until his Heavenly Father called him home.

His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System. He became a well-known carpenter who had a great passion for his craft. He loved spending time with his family and friends, gardening, farming, attending car races, and watching sports, especially the UNC Tar Heels and the Dallas Cowboys. “Tommie” was also known in the community as the “Water Melon Man”.

“Tommie” was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Marshell Alston.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, two granddaughter, five brothers, and three sisters.

Those remaining to forever cherish the precious memories of his life and to share the legacy of his love are his wife, Marshell A. Jones of the home; his children, Jimmy Jones (Fiancee’ Wanda) and Jannie Laverne Parker (Wayne) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Alicia Harding (Calvin) of Gaston, NC, Marshell Pierce (Pete) of Littleton, NC, and Hellen Fay Moody (Reggie) of Whitakers, NC; one daughter-in-law, Michelle Jones of Gaston, NC; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Daniels, Virginia Goodwin, and Ruby Gerald (Leviska) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three brothers, Wiley Jones, Robert Jones (Carolyn), and Levi Jones (Clarine) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; eight other sisters-in-law; six other brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many, many, friends who will all miss his earthly presence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at the Twilight Missionary Baptist Church, 1781 Aurelian Springs Road, Weldon, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Danny Jones, will officiate, and burial will follow in the Jones Family Cemetery, American Legion Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC. The body will repose at the funeral home on Friday, March 30, 2018, from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M. with family visitation from 6:00 – 7:30 P.M.
