CATHERINE “CAT” FREEMAN JARRELL was born to the late James Freeman and California Branch Freeman on June 15, 1938, in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. She was called home to eternal rest and peace on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Signature Health Care of Roanoke Rapids in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
During her early life, she professed faith in Jesus Christ and became a member of the London Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Her formal education was received in the Halifax County Public Schools. She was a wonderful homemaker and dedicated to caring for her family.
On December 31, 1955, Catherine married Wilson C. Jarrell. This union was blessed with five children.
“Cat”, as she was affectionately called, loved her cats, enjoyed reading and was a great story-teller. She especially loved sharing fond memories of her family and growing up in Huckleberry Bottom. She was a woman who it didn’t matter if you met her once or a hundred times, her love was still the same, and she always left a lasting impression. Because of “Cat”, we laugh a little harder, cry a little less, and smile a whole lot more. Her departure leaves a tremendous void in the lives of everyone with whom she came into contact, especially those who knew her best and loved her most.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James “Jurak” Freeman; and her sister, Helen Freeman.
Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memories of her life and to cherish the legacy of her love are her children, Vanesta “Kay” Allen (Floyd) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; James Jarrell, Janette Jarrell, and Wendy Jarrell (Wayne) all of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and Trecia Jarrell of the home; twenty-two grandchildren: Floyd, Keith, and Michaela Allen, Jeffrey Jarrell, Shameka, Martina, Marcus and Matthew Scott, Janae Jarrell, Jeremy, Gaylen, Deanna, and Glen Adams, Jr., Brandon Parker, Jaylon and Janease Hendricks, Wayne McCain, Jr., Carlton Powell, Jr., Christopher and Shayla Escalante, Jovonn Williams, and Jayden Lee; twenty-one great-grandchildren; her favorite cousin, Mable Jarrell; her devoted nieces, Regina Freeman and Renita Freeman (Henry); her dedicated nephews, Lloyd, Wallace (Karen), and Larry Freeman (Dominique); her “daughter of the heart”, Karen Moore; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 1, 2019, at the London Baptist Church, 3386 US highway 158, Roanoke Rapids, NC. Rev. Danny Jones will eulogize, and burial will follow in the Orange and Wesson Family Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC. The body will repose at the funeral home on Thursday, January 31, 2018, from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M. and may be viewed at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
