CARSTINE BARBARA ANN JOHNSON HOGAN was born on August 25, 1950, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late William Plummer Johnson and Luecrecy Powell Johnson. She transitioned from this earthly life to her Heavenly home on Saturday, May 27, 2017, in the serenity of her home in Baltimore, Maryland, surrounded by her loving family.
During her early life, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. After relocating to Baltimore, Maryland, she joined the Concord Baptist Church.
Carstine’s formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and she graduated from the former McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina, with the class of 1968.
Carstine was united in marriage to Edwin Hogan of Littleton, North Carolina. God blessed this union with two beautiful daughters.
Among Carstine’s greatest joys were spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family members. Her beautiful, sweet spirit and warm, caring manner will be forever cherished in the hearts and minds of those who knew her, and the lives she touched in so many special ways. She will be deeply missed as a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Plummer Johnson, Jr.; her sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Baldie Rosser; and her father-in-law, Frank Phipps.
Those remaining to treasure the precious memories of her life and share the legacy of her love are her husband of forty-seven years, Edwin Hogan of the home; two daughters, Sabrina Hogan and Donise Hogan (D’Angelo) of Baltimore, MD; six sisters, Delores Johnston (Earnest) of Knightdale, NC, Carrie Helen Faulcon (Marvin) of Raleigh, NC, Dorothy Brown (Lee) and Emily Hicks (Robert) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Mary Harvey (Alexander) and Gwendolyn Smith (Gary) all of Littleton, NC; two brothers, James Johnson (Earnestine) of Knightdale, NC, and Herbert Johnson (Addie) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two grandsons, Dionte and Dorian of Baltimore, MD; her mother-in-law, Naomi Phipps; two sisters-in-law, Donna Foster (Joseph) and Deidre Kelly (Michael); and one brother-in-law, Frank “Jay” Phipps (Kim) all of Baltimore, MD; one uncle, Claude Powell of Upper Marlboro, MD; one aunt, Barbara Powell of Seat Pleasant, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, NC. Rev. Joseph L. Battle will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, June 9, 2017, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, and the body will repose at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
