CAROLYN FAYE BURGESS MITCHELLwas born to the late Daniel Burgess and Otelia Peters Burgess on April 3, 1954, in Littleton, North Carolina. She quietly answered God’s call to eternal rest on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at her home in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family.
During her early life, Carolyn professed her faith, devoted her life to Christ, and became a lifelong member of the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. She served in various positions and was always devoted to her commitments.
Carolyn’s formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and she graduated from Northwest High School at William R. Davie in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, with the class of 1972. She later attended Halifax Community College in Weldon, North Carolina, and received certifications in computer technology and computer functions.
Carolyn was united in Holy Matrimony to Geno Jerome Mitchell, Sr., and they shared forty-six years of marriage. God blessed this union with two children.
Carolyn was employed for many years with the former J. P. Stevens and Company of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and GEO Corrections and Detentions of Lawrenceville, Virginia, until declining health prevailed.
Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her family and was a very caring and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She would offer her last if she knew you didn’t have anything and had a positive impact on the lives of everyone she touched.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was predeceased by five siblings: James, Sr., Daniel, Jr., Richmond, Horace, and Vivian; her mother-in-law, Althenia Wilkins; and three brothers-in-law, Rodney Wilkins, Alfred Newell, and Horace Jefferson, Sr.
The sweet spirit of her life and love will be forever treasured by her husband, Geno, Sr. of the home; her son, Geno, Jr. (Catrina) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; her daughter, Latisha of Kuwait; four grandchildren, Geno III of Fort Bragg, NC, and Gemeka, TreShon, and Tynecia all of Greensboro, NC; four sisters, Sarah Jefferson of Littleton, NC, Alice Rivers of Jamaica, NY, Annie Newell of South Ozone Park, NY, and Susie Johnson (Kelly) of Norfolk, VA; two brothers, Robert Burgess (Bettie) and Melvin Burgess (Mary) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three other sisters-in-law, Adel Burgess of Littleton, NC, Francine Burgess of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Debbie Scott (Robert) of Creedmoor, NC; four other brothers-in-law, Melvin Mitchell and Kirk Wilkins (Kathy) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Selwyn Mitchell (Myrtle) of Baltimore, MD, and Aldo Posas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including her special friend, Rosa Gilchrist.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 127 Rock House Road, Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Harry R. Carter, Jr., will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the funeral home from 12:00 noon – 8:30 P.M on Friday, April 12, 2019, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 – 7:00 P.M.
