Bettie Ruth Manley Jacobs was born in Warren County, North Carolina, on February 14, 1931, to the late James Henry Manley and Victoria Thornton Manley, and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at her home in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family.
During her early years, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Odell Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. Her formal education was received in the Warren County Public School System. She furthered her education in the healthcare profession and received the following achievement awards: Medical Laboratory Technician, 1962; National Security Agency Department of Defense, 1964; Special Service Award Alpha-X1, 1973; and Indiana University Hospitals Advanced Medical Terminology, 1977. She was employed as a Medical Transcriptionist with Rural health Group in Halifax and Northampton Counties and retired on February 23, 1996, after nine years of dedicated service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving grandson, Caleb Ponton on December 4, 2014; two sisters, Elizabeth M. Cheek and Mary Alice Silver; and two brothers, Leroy and James Manley.
Those left to forever share the precious memories of her life are her five children, Carrie Mills, Della Mills Ponton, Gale Sumlar, Gary Sumlar, and Steve Price; two sons-in-law, Marcel Mills and Min. Clinton Ponton; one daughter-in-law, Bernie Sumlar; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who all love and miss her, and will dearly cherish every priceless memory.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, December 29, 2014, at the Odell Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. Minister Clinton Ponton will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6:00-7:00 P.M. on Sunday evening, December 28, 2014.
