The Lord called His faithful servant to her Heavenly home on Monday, August 28, 2017, at the age of ninety-seven years. ARLINE FRANCES DANIELS DAVIS was born on October 1, 1919, the only child of the late Robert Daniels and Stella Thompson Daniels.
Her formal education was received in the public school system of Halifax County, North Carolina. She committed her life to Christ during her early life and joined the First Baptist Church, Hodgestown in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. She later changed her membership to the Simmon’s Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids.
Arline was united in Holy Matrimony to Thomas M. Davis, who preceded her in death. God blessed this union with nine children. One daughter, Margaret, predeceased her. She was a loving wife and a devoted mother to her children and grandchildren.
Her first occupation was in domestic services. Later she was employed in the laundry department at the former Roanoke Rapids Hospital, and ended her career at the Rosemary Café in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
Arline enjoyed working in her flower garden, driving and traveling to different places with her friend, the late Lucy Sledge, listening to music and dancing, and playing the piano and singing hymns. In her last years, she attended the Roanoke Valley Adult Day Center in Weldon, North Carolina, and was a very active participant in their daily activities.
In addition to her parents, husband, and daughter, Arline is now reunited with her two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, other family members, and friends. May you rest in peace and have a Great Reunion!
Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memories of her life and to share the legacy of her love are her four daughters, Carolyn Faye Hines and Stella Maxine Johnson (Walter) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Pearlie Mae Bronner and Arlene Marie Ellis of Lawrenceville, NJ; her four sons, Thomas Davis, Jr. (Sadie) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Cornelius Davis (Robin) of Littleton, NC, and Dennis R. Davis (Priscilla) and Dea. Cecil M. Davis (Carrie) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; a granddaughter she raised as her own, Sheila Bailey ( MJ ) of Petersburg, VA; her son-in-law, Dea. Major Colvin of Hamilton, NJ; her sister-in-law, Margaret Wilson of Roanoke Rapids, NC; thirty-two grandchildren; eighty-three great-grandchildren; forty-eight great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends, including her very special friend, Faye Robinson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at the First Baptist Church, Hodgestown in Roanoke Rapids, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Michael E. Simmons, will eulogize, and burial will follow in the Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids. The body will repose at the funeral home from 1:00 – 8:30 P.M. on Friday, September 1, 2017, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service.
