Alice Sabina Solomon Harris

ALICE SABINA SOLOMON HARRIS was born in Halifax County, North Carolina, on April 18, 1926, to the late James Solomon and Lucinda Edwards Solomon. She transitioned from this earthly life to her Heavenly home on Sunday, July 31, 2016, at her home in Hollister, North Carolina.

Early in life, Alice accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and became a faithful member of the Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, where she remained for more than seventy years. She served as the chairperson of the Hospitality and the Program Committees, and was an active member of the Revival Fund and the Missionary Ministry where she was secretary for over thirty years. She was a Deaconess and was also involved in several other auxiliaries of the church.

Alice was the devoted wife to her husband, Deacon Plummer Harris of the Odell Baptist Church, who preceded her in death. They were married for fifty-eight years, and God blessed this union with four children.

Alice was educated in the Halifax County Public School System and was a “Stay at home Mom” until all of her children began school. She then became employed in child nutrition with the Halifax County School System at Hollister Elementary School, and was well-known for her delicious yeast rolls. She later became the cafeteria manager and retired after twenty-three years of dedicated service.

Alice was blessed with the gift of hospitality and had a deep passion for serving others. She loved gardening and observing the beauty of her flowers. She delighted in cooking for her family and anyone who entered the doors of her home.

In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by her brothers, Elijah, Herbert, Luther, James, and Samuel Solomon; her sisters, Helen, Beatrice, Rebecca, Louise, and Mary; and her sisters-in-law, Areletha Burgess and Isabella Armstrong.

Those left to cherish her treasured memories are her children, Lillian Hedgepeth (Matthew) of Hollister, NC, Archie Lawrence Harris (Wanda) of Crete, IL, Alfred Alonzo Harris (Judith) of Knightdale, NC, and Alma Daniel (Herbert) of Durham, NC; seven grandchildren, Maurice Hedgepeth (Toby) of Whitsett, NC, Casey, Brandee, and Jonathan Daniel of Durham, NC, and Darius, Darvin, and Destiny Harris of Crete, IL; two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Andrew Hedgepeth of Whitsett, NC; one sister, Nevy Solomon of Greenville, NC; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Williams and Lillian Solomon; one brother-in-law, Elder Sidney Harris; her faithful friend, Mauryce Hedgpeth; her loyal caregiver, Ivor Silver, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
