AILLENE REBECCA EDMONDS MARTIN was born on May 6, 1937, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Clara Edmonds and Ben Alston. She transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
Her formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and she attended the former Goldmine School in Littleton, North Carolina.
Aillene accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior during her early life and joined the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, where she remained a faithful, dutiful member until her death.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Erasper Martin, Sr., who preceded her in death. This union was blessed with five children. She was a kind, loving lady who was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. She had a special love for her family and friends, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her passion was ministering her gift of playing the piano for area churches and singing with local choirs.
Aillene became employed with the former J. P. Stevens and Company of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and was loyal and dedicated to her profession for twenty-six years.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Tinika Guy; and her son-in-law, Charles Clark.
Those loved ones remaining to forever share the valuable legacy of her wisdom and to reflect upon precious memory of her well-spent life are her devoted children, Clara Clark, Eunice Bennett (Donald), Valerie Hardy (Mathy), Erasper Martin, Jr., and Dennis Alston (Terry) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; six wonderful grandchildren, Stacy Alston and Charnell Hedgepeth (Ossie) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Dennis Alston, Jr. and Donald Bennett (QuaNesha) of Greensboro, NC, Tyrus Martin (Chantanette) of Garysburg, NC, and Gregory Martin (Seneathea) of Richmond, VA; Twenty marvelous great-grandchildren; one adorable great-great-granddaughter; one brother-in-law, Elder Fred Martin, Sr. (Mamie) of Littleton, NC; two sisters-in-law, Mary Casper of Baltimore, MD, and Eloise Martin of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two cousins who grew up with her as sisters, Frances Bowser of Newport News, VA, and Hazel Jones of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, 1706 Wayman Church Road, Llittleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. O. D. Sykes, will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the funeral home until 8:30 P.M. on Friday, September 8, 2017, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
